Description :

This children's book compiled in 1988 gives an insight into contemporary life in Port Augusta. It makes an interesting comparison to the Port Augusta that Charlotte Besley writes and describes in her diary (link to template here) almost 100 years earlier in 1887.

Port Augusta's future is looking good. It's geographical position "at the crossroads of Australia", and advantaged by the road and extended rail network to Darwin make it ideally suited as a regional service centre, and as a road and rail hub. This will help Port Augusta take advantage of the proposed Olympic Dam expansion and the mining boom predicted for South Australia's far north. As economic prosperity flows from the mid north, it will help Port Augusta increase the infrastructure and range of leisure activities it is able to offer to its resident population.
