Port Augusta was incorporated as town in 1875. The first mayor of Port Augusta was Thomas McTurk Gibson. As the population of Port Augusta grew certain by-laws were enforced. Some of the more interesting by-laws include on page 7 By-law V - 'or regulating the keeping of pig styes' and page 10 by-law XVI 'to prevent the wanton throwing of stones'. Port Augusta was proclaimed a city in 1964. |
