Description : |
Studio portrait, believed to be of Everard Lucy, son of William and Edith Lucy. The photograph has been tinted. Everard was the only son of William and Edith Lucy. He is dressed in an elaborate frock, typical of the late 19th century when young children, boys and girls, were dressed alike. Two years old at the time of the photograph, it would be several years before Everard was dressed in clothes more suited to an active country boy. Everard and his sisters Ethel Lucy, Ivy Nelson, Ida Stocker and Kath Ireland donated to the State Library in the 1970s and 1980s a collection of books, toys and games that had belonged to them and to their parents before them. The family lived at Modbury from 1873 until 1938. They went to school at Modbury Primary School and helped on the farm before and after school, milking the cows and feeding the horses. They rarely visited Adelaide because of the distance but their father William Everard Lucy would occasionally bring home a toy or a game when he visited the city. The clockwork toys were played with only on special occasions. Everard Lucy died in 1980. |
