The 'big Winch' is a tourist attraction in the outback town of Coober Pedy. Coober Pedy is located approximately 850 kilometres north of Adelaide. Opal was first discovered at Coober Pedy in 1915 and mining continues there today, with much of the world's gem quality opal originating from the Coober Pedy mines. |
