Description : |
The cliffs near Red Lily Lagoon (Inagurdurwil), Arnhem Land. This small, deep lagoon about eight miles south-west of the Expedition's Oenpelli camp gained its name from the cerise lilies that grace its surface. A small party left the main camp to spend a few days exploring the cliffs and caves around the lagoon. Their trip proved fruitful, with eight major locations photographed and documented. The artworks, both Mimi figures and X-ray style, were mostly found on vertical rock faces or shallow cave shelters. Mountford felt that further exploration would have uncovered more, and indeed several more sights have been identified since 1948. |
