It shows the life of sea coast aborigines at Yirrkala in the north-eastern corner of Arnhem Land. Demonstrates how, as children, they learn to handle canoes made from bark and as adults how they use them for fishing and hunting turtle. Birds and Billabongs [videorecording], Director, Charles P. Mountford ; photographer, Peter Bassett-Smith. This film was taken on the 1948 Arnhem Land Expedition. The film describes feeding habits of many birds who find sanctuary in the billabongs of Arnhem Land, and how they are fitted by nature to get their own particular kind of food.
