South Park was never to win a premiership and folded at the end of the 1884 season. It is the oldest surviving major football competition in Australia. In the photograph number 8 is John Creswell, 14 is A.M. Pettinger and 19 is J.R.G. Adams. John Creswell was an important figure in South Australian sporting circles. He was secretary of the SAFA in 1879 and 1881 to 1885, and was secretary of the South Australian Cricket Association from 1883 to 1909, the year of his death. The Creswell Gardens on the south-eastern side of Adelaide Oval are named in his honour. |
