Entrance to Adelaide's Chinatown off Grote Street. Chinese people have lived in South Australia since the very beginnings of the colony - the first Chinese immigrant to South Australia was recorded in 1836. Peaks in the migration of Chinese people to South Australia occurred during the Gold Rushes of the 1850s and during the 1930s and '40s after the Japanese invasion of China. |
