Newspaper article by CP Mountford about the newly proposed American-Australian Scientific Expedition to Arnhem Land. Mountford writes about what he hopes to record about Aboriginal culture and ceremonial life whilst leader of the Expedition. The announcement of the Expedition was widely covered in the press, and piqued the interest of many people seeking an adventure. People from many walks of life, including military personnel, ex-boy scouts and experienced bushmen, all imagined themselves on such an adventure and wrote to Mountford to apply for a position on the Expedition. Many applicants did not expect to be paid, but rather were prepared to work for their keep for the opportunity of new experiences and places. |
