Description :
Close-up photograph of the wording on the roadside plaque erected in 1983 by the Royal Geographical Society of South Australia and the Redhill District Council marking Goyder's line. The plaque is located near the entrance to the Lake Gilles Conservation Park, South Australia.
George Woodroffe Goyder, South Australia's surveyor-general, established the line of rainfall in 1865. The land below Goyder's line received enough rain to be suitable for agriculture and that above the line did not.
