Description :

Collection of postcards, and colour and black and white photographs of lighthouses collected by Jim Garbutt, together with notes on many of the lighthouses, and magazines produced by lighthouse authorities and enthusiasts.

West Cape lighthouse is one of a number of newer lights built in South Australia during the 1980s. It is also unusual in that it is built of stainless steel. The tower is 9 metres high and stands 67 metres above sea level, on the cliffs in Innes National Park at the foot of Yorke Peninsula. The light is solar powered and its light has a range of 22 kilometres.

Along with the lights at Althorpe Island and Cape Spencer, West Cape lighthouse guides ships safely into Spencer Gulf. There was no light at this point prior to 1980.
