The Church of England community in the Minlaton district were holding services in private homes by 1876. The minister at Edithburgh, the Rev. FM Marshall travelled to Minlaton once a month to conduct services. Subsequently these services were conducted in the Institute.

By 1885 the decision was made to build a church, and the design of the church at Port Victoria by WK Mallyon was selected, but with modifications. The nave and the chancel were enlarged, alterations were made to the windows and ceilings and a tower was added at the front instead of a porch. A vestry was placed at the side of the chancel. CR Marlow won the tender with Pollard & Cowling undertaking the carpentry work. The foundation stone was laid 5 March 1886 by AR Russell, Dean of Adelaide, and was opened by Bishop Kennion on 22 August 1886.

The church was renovated in 1906 and stained glass windows were installed in 1947. The stone wall was added in 1904.
