Description : |
Pupils and their teacher outside Stansbury school The school and attached dwelling was built in 1878 by the government at a cost of just over 800 pounds. The school opened with an enrolment of 48 students ranging in age from 4 to 16 years. The teacher from 1882 to 1902 was Miss Grace Kerr. By 1908 the building had been condemned due to overcrowding with the number of students increased to 61. While a new school was being built classes were conducted in the Institute. The old school building was at one period incorporated into the headmaster's house, but now serves the community as a museum. |
