Description :

Welcoming the Governor to Wallaroo Mines.

On 10 November 1904 the Governor of South Australia, Sir George Le Hunte, visited the Wallaroo Mines. At the Institute building he addressed a large gathering of people and was presented with an album of photographs by Charles Baldock, the oldest employee at the mine. The Governor and his party then proceeded to the mine where he inspected the surface works.

Outside the Institute building a ceremonial arch had been erected using scarlet cloth with white lettering, bunting, evergreens and flags. The Federal Band (in white helmets in front of the building) played and the schoolchildren from the mines sang the National Anthem. The Governor was carried in a smart carriage driven by Jim Brown, the mine's stables chief.

The Wallaroo Institute was founded in 1864 and its accommodation was built in 1877. In 1892 the Institute was transferred to the Wallaroo Council.
