Update from press correspondent AC Kinnear reporting on the progress of a South Australian Government expedition sent to the Simpson Desert to search for possible remains of explorer Ludwig Leichhardt.

"Today was largely uninteresting work, dust and flies. We worked hard all through the morning without results. ...Rex Lowe dug a deep trench in the northern side of the excavations, in the frantic hope of getting something before we left, for the leader had decided to return to civilisation the next day.

Quite late in the day, Rex found a piece of stretched leather, such as might have formed a portion of a fine riding boot or leather work. Several other pieces were collected almost immediately afterwards."
