Description : |
From the Advertiser, 29 August 1938. The expedition party abandoned their camp on 27 August, travelling back to Mount Dare Station (expertly driven through trying conditions by Lowe). Whilst they battled their way through a sandstorm in the truck, the Aboriginal men who accompanied and assisted them on their journey were left behind to face the conditions on foot - charged with walking back the horses and camels. Meanwhile, the party arrived back at Mount Dare Station, bathed and settled in for a meal and sing a-long, led by TD Campbell, a talented pianist. The next day was mainly spent recording data in their journals and preparing for the trip back to Adelaide. Mountford also managed to visit the 'native camp', where he spoke to some of the women about their dreaming stories. The men were mostly absent - some still returning from Ritchie's Ridge, and so he planned to return the following day to speak to them. |
