Description : |
Hills Hoist (rotary clothes line) at the shearers' quarters at Paney Station (located within the Gawler Ranges National Park). The Hills Hoist was developed by Lance Hill in the backyard of his suburban Adelaide home in 1945. Hill's rotary clothesline, with the benefits that it could hold more washing and could be lowered and raised to catch the breeze, was soon a hit with his friends and associates. The Hills Hoist is now exported all over the world and has become an Australian cultural icon. |
