Iron knob is located on South Australia's Eyre Peninsula. Commercial mining began at Iron Knob in 1880 and BHP (now BHP Billiton) took over the lease of the mine in 1899. The success of its operations at Iron Knob contributed to the development and growth of the Australian steel industry.
