Description :

A public meeting was held at Curramulka on 22 April 1878 to discuss building a Wesleyan Methodist Church in the town. At the meeting the following people promised donations: J. Grundy (5s), Coleman (5s), Kumpoor (5s), Frewed (5s), J. Goldsworthy junior (5s), Mills (10s), M. Lord (5s), Norman (10s), E. Hart (10s) and Miss Barnett (5s). Subsequently a wood and iron building was erected for use as a chapel on Sundays, and as a school during the week. It was opened on Easter Day, 21 April 1878. The Adelaide observer newspaper reported,

An iron chapel has been erected in which services are held every Sunday to large congregations. The chapel is also used as a schoolroom, and is largely attended by the young under a competent female teacher. (Adelaide observer, 8 June 1878, p. 6)

This first church was replaced with a stone building in 1882, and by the current church building in 1912. The Curramulka Methodist Church was part of the Minlaton Circuit, which was amalgamated with the Yorketown Circuit in 1966 to become the Southern Yorke Peninsula Circuit.
