The Yelta Mine was one of the earliest and most important of the rich Moonta copper mines of the 19th century. This extract from the mine ledger includes payments made to the following employees: James Burt, Henry Gusling, Daniel Cairnes, Thomas Penhale, George Colman, Edward Luxton, Henry Percill, William Hammett, Robert Winter, George Mills, John Polglase, William J. Francis, James Mann, Rev. Henry Roberts, James Thomas, Joseph Penhall, Charles Spangler, George Morgan and Walter Francis. The Mine was closed in 1913. (People's weekly, 28 June 1913, p. 2) |
