Description : |
Edwin Lowe pulling a woma snake from its hole near the Weelina water hole in the Simpson desert. The party came across the eight foot python on their return journey to Mount Dare Station, and despite his best attempts to resist capture, the woma was extricated and taken with them. Mountford claimed it for the Adelaide Museum, and named it Cecil in 'honour' of geologist Cecil T. Madigan. Madigan, a member of the Australasian Antarctic expedition from 1911-1914, was fascinated with the Simpson Desert, and the following year led the first scientific expedition there, crossing the desert in 25 days. |
