Description : |
MINLATON: The flour mill at Minlaton, South Australia A mill was established in 1886 on the Maitland Road. This was operated by William Long until 1891, when it was taken over by Manuel, Hilton & Company, until resumed by Long in 1900. At this time Long replaced the stone mill with roller milling machinery. When the mill was burnt down in 1906, Long's son, William, rebuilt it and installed the latest milling methods. With his partner Walter Travers, Long established a reputation for a fine product with his flour reported as equal to any on the market. By 1923 however, the mill was being used as a butter factory, then as a cordial factory and ice creamery, and by 1944 as a creamery. |
