From a lecture given by CP Mountford about the 1938 South Australian Government expedition sent to the Simpson Desert to search for possible remains of explorer Ludwig Leichhardt. In this excerpt he describes the journey from Adelaide to Abminga on the now abandoned Central Australia (or Old Ghan) line. Describing the towns and scenery they journey through, Mountford provides a lively account of South Australian rail travel of that era. |
