Description : |
A daily program of entertainment onboard the Lloyd Triestino ocean liner, the Neptunia. Charles Mountford sailed on the Neptunia when he spent time in Europe, between 1957 and 1959. This entertainment program lists the screening of the film, 'Arnhem Land', during the evening cinema program on 23rd January 1957, introduced by Mountford. Mountford was almost 70 when he travelled to England and Europe to study and gather new resources in the field of anthropology. The finance to travel came from a Nuffield Foundation scholarship, which enabled Mountford to spend a year working with the Department of Archaeology and Anthropology at Cambridge, and six months in Europe conferring with specialists on Indigenous art. In London, Mountford was able to work under supervision, and he was, 'by dissertation', awarded a Diploma in Anthropology from the University of Cambridge. During this time Mountford made trips to the Continent, visiting museums and galleries in Paris, Cologne, Frankfurt, Munich and Gothenburg. He used the opportunity of travel to present numerous exhibitions and introduce films about his work and the lives of Australian Aboriginal people. |
