Description : |
Close view of players during a football match between the Port Adelaide and South Adelaide football clubs held at the Adelaide Oval in 1914. The Port Adelaide side of 1914 went through the season undefeated, the only team to ever do so. In fact they didn't lose a game from June 21, 1913 to July 13, 1915 (Whimpress, p. 145). Not only did they win the 1913 and 1914 South Australian Football League Grand Finals but also won the Champions of Australia title both years by defeating Victorian Football League premiers Fitzroy (1913) and Carlton (1914). Two Magarey Medallists played in the team Jack 'Spud' Ashley who won the 1914 medal and Sampson 'Shine' Hosking who had won in 1910 and went on to win in 1915. Another notable player in the team was Harold Oliver, often regarded as the best player to never win a Magarey Medal. |
