Extracts from newspaper article revealing that an agreement on the management of the waters of the River Murray has been made between representatives of the Commonwealth and the State Premiers. The River Murray Waters Agreement was signed the following year Extracts from The Observer newspaper article reveal that an agreement on the management of the waters of the River Murray has been made between representatives of the Commonwealth and the state Premiers. It was not until 1915, however, that the River Murray Waters Agreement was signed by the three states of South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales, and the Commonwealth. In 1917, the River Murray Commission was constituted to administer the Agreement. In practice, state rivalries rather than a uniform and cooperative approach dominated river management. |
