Description : |
Noelle C Tolley's novel In looking-glass land depicts the lives of several women living at Australia's first irrigation settlement, the Chaffey Irrigation Colony at Renmark, in the 1880s. Told through the letters the women send to their friends and families, the novel shows the women's new world beside the Murray River to be as much a contrast to their former lives as the world Alice finds 'through the looking glass'. Written by a local author, In looking-glass land is based on extensive research using letters and newspapers of the time, and oral histories of the descendants of the pioneers of Renmark. |
