Description : |
Punt on River Murray at Waikerie Ferries or punts provided the first crossings on the River Murray for many years, and still operate in many places today. At Waikerie ia ferry is recorded as operating in 1910 and like many others, was hand operated, later becoming motorised. The ferry shortened the road between Morgan and Renmark, and the first crossing was made 28 September 1910. During the 1956 River Murray flood the ferry was closed for six months. |
