Construction of No. 1 lock at Blanchetown, River Murray. Begun in 1915, the lock was completed in 1922. The lock was named the William R. Randell Lock after William Randell the first man to operate a paddlesteamer on the River Murray in 1853. Randell went on to build up a successful freight business on the river with a sizeable fleet of paddlesteamers and also operated a dry dock at Mannum. |
