Description : |
Charles Sturt was not the first European to discover Lake Alexandrina, although he believed so at the time. News eventually reached Sydney that a large lake adjacent to the coast of Encounter Bay had been seen by sealers operating on the south coast. A report of this was sent to Sydney, but its arrival was delayed. The sealers did not realise that a large river drained into the lake. |
