Many locally born Australians have taken some interest in eastern religions and cults. As early as the 1920s there were adherents of the Baha'I faith in South Australia publishing a newsletter titled Herald of the South. The founder of Baha'I in the 19th century, Baha'u'llah, taught that there was one God, whose successive revelations have been the chief civilising force in world history. He also taught the oneness of the world's peoples, encouraging his followers to work towards global unity. The Baha'I centre at 342 Brighton Road, Somerton Park, was opened in September 2001. |
