Description :

The State Library holds more than 200 segments of film taken by Percival Moody. Born at Kent Town in 1890, Moody was a philanthropist, company director and keen motor hobbyist, founding the Harley-Davidson Motor Cycle Club and the Outboard Club of South Australia.

Moody filmed historic South Australian events, occasions and attractions between 1929-1950, and raised funds for charity through public film screenings.

Here we see beach life at Glenelg in the early 1930s.

Firstly, scenes from the foreshore taken in 1931. Moody captures a large array of beachgoers and then takes in views of the buildings and streetscapes of Jetty Road and the Esplanade as well as shots of Luna Park at night.

This is followed by footage of a surf life-saving competition in 1932.
