Description :

With a strong focus on religion and sentimentality in the 19th century, most families owned a Family Bible. Often these were beautifully decorated and illustrated, and bound with brass clasps. The Bible owned by Frederick and Eliza Pybus of Port Augusta not only includes the usual pages for the recording of family births, deaths and marriages, but also has places for the preservation of family photographs. Examples of these elaborate family heirlooms also exist in other languages, such as German.
