In 1878 the first wedding to be held in the newly consecrated St Peter's Cathedral was that of Bishop Short's granddaughter, Clara Glen, to Conrad Engelhardt The cathedral had first been used for worship in 1876, and consecrated in January 1878. Many early cathedral identities are shown in this anonymous drawing, including the Dean, Charles Marryat, who officiated at the wedding. Three years later the Bishop retired, and returned to England. The young couple, Clara and Conrad Engelhardt, also moved to the UK and settled in Hertfordshire. |
