Detail of the 'King and Queen of Hearts' float in the 1951 John Martin's Christmas Pageant. Each year many of the staff of John Martin's were involved as characters on floats or in other official capacities. When the store folded, the South Australian government bought the Pageant to ensure that the tradition continued. Six credit unions are now the major sponsors of the event and their staff carry on the custom of filling the character roles, the clowns and marshalling staff necessary on the day. |
