SA Memory. South Australia past and present, for the future

Just for fun : books

Books for children can be broadly divided into two types: books that give pleasure and books that are designed to teach, including school books. Some books in the latter category can be found in the Learning and Education component of this website. Books for the joy of reading, for the fun contained within them, for the recurring pleasure they give to their audience, may include pop-up books, toy books, penny dreadfuls and comics, scrapbooks or homemade books and storybooks. The majority of those discussed here were owned and read by South Australian children, and subsequently donated to the Children's Literature Research Collection, which therefore represents the reading interests of South Australian children from colonial days.
