Description :

After paying our way from the mother land and sending us money at every port of call, John Simpson, the youngest of the Simpson lads, picked up my husband George, my daughter Marjorie and myself, May Schofield, from Outer Harbour, we had just travelled from the other side of the world and what seemed an entire world away in England. As we stepped off of the "Mooltan" we were greeted by Mr.Simpson who immediately endeavoured to convince us that Adelaide was further inland and that what we could see wasn't the city. On our way down Port Road, Mr. Simpson pointed to the oversized median strip and exclaimed "that was supposed to be a canal all the way to the city" but he never offered an explanation as to why the canal never eventuated. The hot weather made us want to get back on the ship and head back "home" but we stayed. For good.

George worked for Simpson's at the Dudley Park factory for years and we moved into a house on Simpson Avenue that is now gone although the playground our daughters played in is still there even though the playground equipment is new and different.

My grandson's Fiancee now works at Electrolux in the very same factory that George worked in for Simpson's. It's a small world.

I still have some momentos hidden in my house of our journey on the Mooltan. My grandson is fascinated by our story.
