Description :

Portrait of A. Glen from Leigh's Creek from the S.A. Northern Pioneers' composite, 1850-1859 (shown in position on B 6912/2).

Alexander Glen was the not the first landholder of the station at Leigh's Creek. Oddly this creek was named after one of Glen's employees, Harry Leigh. Glen had succeeded two previous partnerships of the lease. George Bunn and John Weatherstone took up the lease in 1857 and sold it to George Henry Davenport and William Fowler in 1859. Glen appears to have managed the station for Davenport. Drought took a heavy toll on the levels of stocking and in 1867 it was described as 'unstocked'.

Alexander was a brother of George Glen of Mayurra Station in the South East of South Australia.

Brown coal would later be discovered on the property and eventually the Leigh Creek Coal Field was established.
