Whilst in Yirrkala Mountford and cinematographer Peter Bassett-Smith made the film Aborigines of the Sea Coast.

This colour film featured shots of children playing on the unspoilt beaches of Yirrkala, as well as the industry of their parents, shown making canoes, fishing, and building a bark shelter.
