Description :

The general duties of the Protector of the Aborigines, as set out in the South Australian Government Gazette, stated that he would devote himself solely to this task, that much of his time should be spent with the Aboriginal people and become familiar with their habits, language, districts; maintain good relations between the Aboriginal people and the settlers, and instruct them in reading, writing and Christianity. The Protector should report on a quarterly basis to the Government.
