Southern Cross Hotel, Adelaide on King William Street, east side. Right side of hotel is 60 yards north of Grenfell Street. The frontage is 12 yards. Two pubs operated on this site: the first Southern Cross Hotel existed from 1846 to 1874 when it was demolished. A new building was erected in 1879 and demolished in 1974 when the license was relocated to 21 James Place. A shopping arcade was built on the site, and was named the Southern Cross Arcade. This photograph shows the 1879 building of the Southern Cross Hotel. |
