Description :

View of Holy Trinity Church looking north across North Terrace. This is the oldest ecclesiastical building in South Australia.

This photograph shows the late 1880s additions to the tower designed by EJ Woods. In the upper right-hand corner can also be seen part of the Morphett Street Bridge which now overshadows the church's position on North Terrace.
In 1888 major changes took place under the guidance of architect Edward J Woods. The original church was enlarged and renovated so that in effect it would be a new church. The walls were raised, a new roof constructed, the chancel rebuilt and the tower raised. These alterations were made in sandstone to match the original building material of limestone, and in this photograph you can see the difference in the colour of the stone. This extensive work, morphed the appearance of the church into the Victorian Gothic style.
The church is listed in the Register of the National Estate.
