The original modest building was designed by Thomas Burgoyne. The foundation stone was laid by Bishop Short in 1868. This original church was enlarged in 1882 to the design shown in this drawing by Daniel Garlick.

There are many items which adorn the church including a decorative screen behind the altar sent from England by Lieutenant-Colonel and Mrs Holt as a memorial to their son and a brass lectern in memory of Thomas Young who was a warden for of the church for 30 years.

St Augustine's Anglican Church contains elements of the Victorian Free Gothic style including a gabled roof; random rubble stone walls with rendered coursed brick work to the corners, windows and buttresses; pointed ornate windows and angled buttressing.

St Augustines is listed on the South Australian State Heritage Register and on the National Heritage Register.
