Description :
In 1955 the Commonwealth Revival Crusade (since 1963 known as the Christian Revival Crusade) purchased an old home in Wattle Street, Fullarton for use as a manse and 'deliverance centre'. The organisation was established by Leo Harris, who first held services in the King's Theatre, King William Street, in 1945. This Pentecostal-style church developed from the Assemblies of God, but placed particular emphasis on Bible prophecy and local church autonomy. The belief that the Anglo-Saxon people were descended from the 'ten lost tribes of Israel', and that Anglo-Australians could therefore expect to see a national religious revival, was initially a major focus of Harris and his followers. In 1958 the group purchased Crusade Hall in Sturt Street. By 1984 there were an estimated 600 members of the Adelaide assembly. The original property in Wattle Street became a Christian Primary School sponsored by the Adelaide Crusade Centre. This was part of a movement which saw the establishment of many independent schools founded with a strong religious ethos.
