Coopers Brewery

Coopers Brewery is the only South Australian owned brewery and only family owned brewery in Australia. The Brewery was established by Thomas Cooper at Norwood in 1862. It relocated to Upper Kensington (now Leabrook) in 1881 and again to Regency Park in 2002. Legend has it that Cooper discovered his talent for brewing beer when he brewed a restorative ale for his ill wife from an old family recipe. Cooper's first commercial products were Sparkling Ale and Extra Stout. He delivered his brew to customers with a team of Clydesdale horses and cart, a tradition which continued into the 1920s. Coopers Brewery still keeps a team of Clydesdales which competes at Royal Shows and horse competitions and advertises the company. Since Thomas Cooper, successive generations of Coopers have continued to brew ales, beers and stouts with natural ingredients and mostly traditional methods. Coopers Brewery also now produces malt extract and home brewing kits. Coopers is the world's largest exporter of home brew products.
