View of the Grenfell Street facade of theAdelaide Fruit and Produce Exchange building. The East End Markets were established on East Terrace (between North Terrace and Rundle Street) by Richard Vaughn in 1867. When demand for stalls exceeded the space, William Charlick purchased land between Rundle and Grenfell Streets to extend the market. However, his discussions with the East End Market Company were unsuccessful and he eventually established a new market, the Adelaide Fruit and Produce Exchange. The facades of theAdelaide Fruit and Produce Exchange building have been maintained, but the rest has been demolished to make way for apartment complexes. |
