Description :

View of one of the windows of Miss Gladys Sym Choon's shop in east Rundle Street, featuring various Asian artefacts.

This window display celebrates the Chinese heritage of the original owner of the shop, Gladys Sym Choon. Gladys's parents migrated to Adelaide from southern China in the late 19th century. Her father traded in fresh produce, buying goods from the East End Market and selling them door to door in suburban Adelaide. Gladys opened her shop, the China Gift Store, in 1923. Other members of her family also ran shops on Rundle Street.
