Description :

Extracts from a 1989 timetable and brochure advertising the Pichi Richi Railway.

The Pichi Richi Railway was opened in 1879 and was intended to be used as part of the Great Northern Railway linking Port Augusta and Darwin. Closed in 1957 due to its inability to handle increased traffic and occasional flooding of its northern reaches, the oldest part of the Pichi Richi Railway is now used to run heritage train services.
