Developed by brothers Richard and Clarence Smith on South Australia's Yorke Peninsula, the stump jump plough allowed farmers to plough their land without having to remove stumps and stones first. Saving farmers the time and expense of stump removal, the stump jump plough revolutionised farming practices and was much awarded at agricultural shows. This advertisement states that the Smiths' stump jump plough won first prize against 11 competitors in the 'Great Field Trial' held at Bute, South Australia, in 1906. |
