Yankalilla – Shrine of Our Lady of Yankalilla

An image behind the altar of Christ Church, Yankalilla (now the Shrine of Our Lady of Yankalilla) is believed to be a representation of the Virgin Mary. The apparition first appeared in 1994 and drew media attention in 1996 since when it has attracted pilgrims from around the world. When first reported, the image appeared to be shaped like the Madonna cradling the Christ Child. Over time, the image has changed to now appear to be the Virgin Mary holding the crucified Jesus.
